About flame working:

Glassblowing, or flame working, is the foundation of Fiery Fingers as a business, although the business has evolved since then, and now incorporates healing and performing arts.

The typical flame working medium is generally borosilicate, or “hard” glass. Annie works with hard glass using flame from a torch, mixing oxygen and propane (versus acetylene in “soft” glass, which has a different chemical makeup and melting point) in varying degrees to manipulate the glass in the desired manner. This is flame working.

Annie also utilizes other complimentary methods of working with glass besides flame working, such as faceting or sandblasting (“Graal”), and more. She also incorporates images and stones, gold and silver, dichroic, frit, etc.… the creative options are truly endless!

Education:

Annie first became interested in hand-blown glass art while attending art college in Michigan (see “Biography”). Here she met her former husband and fellow artist (name withheld for privacy purposes), who later took up glassblowing as a way to support his family after their daughter was born (of course, she is an artist, too!). He eventually became celebrated and ranked as one of the best flame workers on the planet, and taught Annie to blow glass, as well.

Annie has been flameworking since 2002, privileged to be educated by one of the most creative and prosperous artists on the scene today.

Today:

Now, Annie continues to create glass art in her personal studio. Her philosophy: if you can dream it, you can do it! Annie loves to honor special orders and requests, to make YOUR glass dreams come true. 🙂 Whether it’s a special pendant or jewelry, vases, goblets, smoking devices, vaporizers, etc… you name it, Annie will create it!

Look for Annie’s glass artwork in local shops in and around the Arcata, CA area, as well.

And, yes, you can come watch! Annie has extra glasses.
